Syrian draft resolution to be vetoed by the
USA Syria-Iraq, Politics, 3/28/2003
The BBC correspondent in New York said it is certain that the
Syrian draft resolution to condemn the American- British war against
Iraq and to halt it immediately will be vetoed by the US and UK if
the resolution comes up for a vote.
He added in case the US
and Britain will use the veto, the role of the UN Security Council
will be limited to adopt a just and balanced resolution that
organizes the process of implementing the oil-for-food program
without legitimizing the American- British military presence in
Iraq.
The correspondent indicated that the Iraqi problem
might be taken from the UN Security Council to the UN General
Assembly where there is no veto power.
